Exhaustive ballot

Each voter votes for one candidate. You continue voting until a candidate receives a majority of votes. The candidate with the least votes is eliminated each time (optional).

Benefits

  • Majoritarian—a candidate must receive a majority of votes to win.
  • Has more thorough debate than instant runoff, the other strongly majoritarian voting method.

See example scenarios

Disadvantages

  • Can take a long time if there are many candidates.
  • Strategic voting is possible, although the opportunity for strategic voting is small.
